Having just gotten back from the conference in DC of the Association of Writers and Writing Associations (AWP) I am refreshed and interested in continuing the progress of all venues of art - including finishing a current landscape that is heavily influenced by Monet. Most of my stuff is, I have to admit, but this one is completely fictitious, so I haven't had a great idea of what to do with it, or where to take it. I will post what I have so far in the near future...

And... I'm back, for now. :)

"Tickling the Bark" was launched earlier today, and you can find it under www.ticklingbark.blogspot.com, or linked below my profile pic. Like I said earlier, this will be mainly random writings, but I will include the inspired pic or squiggle. Discussion is highly encouraged.

New art will still be sporadic at best before Jun.1. I am hoping to get a lot of good pieces cranked out (both art and writing) at my new place. :)

New Features and New Blog?

After a long hiatus from my art, I will be recommencing my work after May 14. I will start adding some of the office inspired works that have come to mind as well, and this includes writing.

I have been writing like a madwoman (surprise!) and I am considering a sister blog to this one that focuses on the development of ideas and free writing space. As always, comments are welcome.

However, I am going to discontinue the Hubpages writing, and instead post my recent works with Arcadia's The Tower student newspaper. Also, anyone who would like to see the brainiac part of me can visit me on http://www.academia.edu/, just look me up!

Trying to work with Websites

It's been quite a time since I've posted anything here. I will be continuing to try and update this site as I get back into the art world this Spring.

But, in the meantime, I have started a written account on http://hubpages.com/hub/Twenty-something-Politico-in-Training. Check out some recent posts of comments about what's going on in politics at the moment, from profiles to an American Political theory background applied to real examples.

Also up this time of year, Illinois State University's Euphemism, the creative online journal has pushed its deadline of accepting submissions to Feb. 26! I've got some previous dooseys up there, so check it out at www.english.ilstu.edu/euphemism.

Banner Change

I'm debating about what else I can do to fancy up the blog a little, but so far all I can think to do is add more to the banner. I would love to see if there would be a way to have my penguins follow the cursor, or at least run in a ticker of random quotes under the banner... if anyone has any ideas on how to do something like this, let me know. :)

New Art for the Art Show Tomorrow!

Surprise! To me as well - I'm participating in an artistic benefit for artists going to Nepal. It's in Bloomington near the Recycled Office Furniture store. I am still kind of foggy on the specifics, but I think there will be directions. These are directly from Robert Elliott himself -

The best way to get down to the location is to take main st south just after
passing the colleseum turn right on olive and left on madison, then turn
left toget under the bridge, if you go over the tracks you passed it.

I have two paintings completed so far, and I have two just starting, and about four just finishing. I can't wait to have these up - so here are the first two to take a gander at -

I have been negligent of the site of late, but not for the sake of being unproductive. On the contrary - I have been doing plenty of comic strips that have been shown in recent issues of Bloomington-Normal's alternative newspaper, the Indy. Here's a taste of the goodies that have come out so far...

(Rod Blagojevich: Mr. Frank Capra! Frank Capra: Governor Blagojevich, you would be great in one of my movies. I'm always looking for that honest to goodness portrait of a corrupt, system embedded crook to base my villains off of.)

Art Show!

Two things - first, I have an event! I will be showing my art at the Coffeehouse in "uptown" Normal. The showing starts officially on Jan 21, but I will be putting up the art on the night of Jan 20. The run time will be three weeks. I hope people can make it!

And second, because of the show, I have finished the capitol series, as well as the loch ness series, more sunsets, and two stonehenges will be done tomorrow! I have photos of all. I am also shooting for finishing my violin series tomorrow and a portrait of Dennis Kucinich. As soon as the violin series is set, I will find out the mailing price of the 16x20 and will be officially up for business on etsy.com. I can't wait! :)

After a Vacation...

I started to figure out how to ship a painting. I will be looking into how much it costs for shipping, and then Etsy will have it's first few paintings up for sale within the month. I also have my violin set of paintings started, and they will be posted on Flickr as soon as they are done. More to come, hopefully soon.

Just found out about Etsy - an online selling option like ebay for handmade items! I should have my shipping info and a few of my postings up soon.
Also, I will be making Penguin fashioned holiday cards, starting at $3 before shipping...
(The capitol buildings are in the works, I will have pictures later of their progress :)

I finally have my newest set under way, three 16x20s of the Capital dome in DC. I also put up a new set of penguin illustrations on flickr, and two versions of the same sketch, one regular and one augmented by a computer art program. I will be trying to redo some of the penguin illustration shots, they were a bit fuzzy because of the small nature of the originals, which unfortunately I do not have any more.
I also have two more ideas coming up for smaller sets, of two paintings, one of which would be a more detailed still life of a violin in mood lighting, and the other would be an interpretation of a shot of Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness.
